The “Complete” Primary PE shed – A Simple Tick List

PE shed

If you’ve ever opened the PE shed and thought “we definitely had cones… didn’t we?” – this one’s for you.

Over the years, we’ve worked in hundreds of primary schools and one thing is consistent:
when PE equipment is organised, complete, and well-maintained, lessons run smoother, staff feel more confident, and pupils get more out of their PE time.

We’ve put together a downloadable PE Shed Tick Sheet that outlines the core equipment most primary schools should aim to have in stock – across:

  • Games and ball skills
  • Gymnastics and movement
  • Athletics
  • Inclusive and SEND-friendly equipment
  • General PE essentials (cones, markers, bibs, etc.)

It’s not about having everything – it’s about having the right things, in usable condition, and knowing what needs replacing before it becomes a problem mid-lesson.

How schools are using it:

  • As a quick annual audit
  • To support PE premium planning
  • To help new staff understand what’s available
  • As a handover document between PE leads

You can download the tick sheet and use it in whatever way works best for your school.
